Where my clothes come from – No. 1

Sue Phillips

I’ve never particularly been a follower of fashion trends. In fact, I’ve spent a lot of my life in jeans and leggings. I don’t like the throw away culture of fashion; it’s so wasteful. As I’ve got older I’ve got more adventurous in what I wear. But my real passion is jewellery, so I prefer good quality, well-designed clothes which are fairly discrete and don’t detract too much attention from my favourite jewellery. I find it quite hard to find clothes I feel really comfortable in. So I was delighted to find this MaxMara ‘little black dress’ in Dress for Less, a clothing agency in Islington, London who specialise in ‘pre-loved’ (second-hand) designer clothes.

I’m wearing my new dress with a necklace from Monica Carvalho, a Brazilian jewellery designer who makes jewellery from natural and recycled materials. You can see Monica talking about her work and fair trade model on her YouTube video, Finding Beauty, or take a look at her website: Monica Carvalho.
